NOTE:
While the Coaster's excellent water absorption is a great feature, like all wooden products, it absorbs and releases moisture at varying rates. This uneven moisture movement can cause internal stress, leading to warping such as bowing or cupping. Since coasters are mostly used for drinks, condensation from cold beverages can soak into the wood and may cause warping over time.
To protect your coaster, you can consider sealing your coaster with natural household sealants like:
- Candle Wax / Beeswax
- Coconut Oil or Mineral Oil
Use wood sealants like polyurethane for stronger protection! (It's the same as "seasoning" a wooden chopping board!)
If your coaster has warped, you can try dampening it (or using steam) and then placing it between two flat objects with a weight on top to help flatten it out. However, since coasters are meant to to protect the surface of a table or furniture from condensation, heat, or scratches, they may warp again over time. If that’s a concern for you, sealing it with the methods mentioned above might be a better solution~!
